Background & Vision

Muscular Dystrophy Association of NSW (MDNSW) commenced operation in 1957 as a specialist support group within the Society for Crippled Children, now known as Northcott Disability Services.  Those living with neuromuscular conditions, and their families, were instrumental in setting up MDNSW as a separate entity from Northcott Disability Services. In the early days, all the Association’s work was voluntary and was done by family members. The Association operated from offices at South Sydney for many years, before moving to the more central current location of Meadowbank , near Ryde, in 2008. In the same year, our name and logo was changed to Muscular Dystrophy NSW, to reflect our status as one of several state and territory MD organisations within Australia, providing services to those living with neuromuscular conditions.

Our vision is to improve the quality of life for all people living with a neuromuscular condition.

The heart of Muscular Dystrophy NSW is the people, whether they are those with a neuromuscular condition, or their families and carers.

We are keen for you to be involved and value your ideas and feedback. There are a number of ways of doing this. One way is through the Members’ Advisory Group  which is a vehicle for members to share ideas and feedback regarding the services and support offered by MDNSW. We welcome any comments also by phone or email.
