Am I eligible for the NDIS?
To be eligible for funded supports, you must be assessed by the NDIA and meet these overall criteria:
- You are under 65 years of age at the time of application
- You are an Australian citizen or resident, or permanent visa holder
- You meet the disability or early intervention requirements
You can also refer to the NDIS Access Checklist available online here or call the NDIS on 1800 800 110 to find out if you are eligible.
Please click here to view the guide published by the NSW Government which outlines the steps that need to be taken to determine eligibility.
What happens if I am not eligible?
If the NDIA decides that a person with disability is not eligible, they cannot get a plan or funded supports from the NDIS. They can still get advice and information by calling them directly on 1800 800 110.
If you are aged 65 years and over, you are not eligible to access the NDIS. Please click here to view a fact sheet published by NDIS to explore other options.
For those not eligible, there is also a formal review and appeals process. The first step is the internal review process through the NDIA. Click here to open the NDIA Feedback and Complaints policy. If unsatisfactory, they still have full rights to appeal to the Commonwealth Governments Administrative Appeal Tribunal – click here for the link.
You can contact the NDIS here for further details.
