Being a member of Muscular Dystrophy NSW means that you have access to a wide range of activities and events all throughout the year!

Events held annually for all of our members across NSW include Camps, Retreats for carers, Christmas Parties, Medical Seminars, the Easter Show and our hugely successful Gala Ball.

This year we are also promoting the wonderful sport of Boccia, which is a Paralympic sport suitable to anyone of any age or ability. We will be conducting Coaching Clinics and Day Camps in a bid to establish Boccia Pockets throughout NSW so that members will be able to play regularly on a social basis. Members will also be able to partake in the Great Boccia Bash where all our State Muscular Dystrophy Associations will run a Boccia Clinic and Competition on the same day throughout Australia. This will also be used as a part of the Australian Paralympic Committee’s Talent Identification Program so that the best players with a neuromuscular condition from across the country come together to play against each other at Sydney Olympic Park for our first ever State of Origin National Competition!

Muscular Dystrophy NSW will also be working more closely with Radio Controlled Car Racing organisations throughout the state to run some specifically designed Car Racing Workshops. This is an exciting activity in which the whole family can participate together.

For the benefit of all existing members and particularly any new members, we have implemented a Member Information session to give Muscular Dystrophy NSW staff the opportunity to introduce themselves and explain all the services and support available to you as a member.

Perhaps one of our most exciting initiatives to commence last year was the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, where a small group of 14-24 year old members have been given the opportunity to participate in an unprecedented pilot project which could set the benchmark for people with disabilities throughout not only NSW and Australia, but globally as well! Click here to read about what they’ve been doing.

Our Carer Programs Coordinator makes many visits out to the Regional areas of NSW, as we are always looking at how we can improve our services to those in the remote areas as well.

At Muscular Dystrophy NSW we work hard to make sure that there are fun, exciting, informative and educational activities happening for all our members all over NSW. See our Events Calendar for what is coming up next (available March 2012), and make sure you have a good read of our free Talking Point magazine which is distributed to all of our members quarterly.
