Muscular Dystrophy NSW Counselling Service

rainbow-gift-treeMuscular Dystrophy NSW offers specialist counselling services.

We offer face-to-face appointments as well as telephone counselling for people in remote areas or who are unable to attend in-person appointments.

Counselling is the process of working through personal difficulties and identifying strategies to better manage and balance responses to distress.

Our counselling services include:

- Emotional support in coming to terms with an initial diagnosis
- Support during significant transitions
- Dealing with grief and loss issues
- Understanding individual differences in family members’ emotional responses
- Understanding how stressful events place pressure on relationships

Muscular Dystrophy NSW Counsellors provide support which is confidential, person-centred and non-judgemental and have an understanding of the issues people face when affected by a neuromuscular disease, as well as dealing with other life stressors.

Fees: This service is provided to our members at no cost however we would appreciate a donation of $5-$30 per session. Members can receive up to six sessions per year.

The MDNSW counselling program is proudly supported by the Shane Warne Foundation. The mission at The Shane Warne Foundation is to raise funds to help “enrich the lives of seriously ill and underprivileged children and teenagers in Australia”. The support provided by The Shane Warne Foundation means children and families affected by a neuromuscular disease can talk to a counsellor who understands.
