Organising your own fundraising activity is a great way to get active and social in support of people with Muscular Dystrophy, whilst raising funds and awareness for our cause. Follow the link for more ideas.
Net Community
MDF Australia is currently in the process of building our Net Community in partnership with MDNSW so that we can keep our members all over Australia in touch and up to date. This program is also aimed at linking up our younger members and keeping them in contact between activities and events. MDNSW is currently working in partnership with Livewire to develop this program.

MDNSW is keen to facilitate communication, social activities and shared support between our members and all people who are directly or indirectly affected by a neuromuscular disorder. A great way of achieving this is to harness the power and accessibility of the internet.
While we’re working on our own net community services, we encourage you to take advantage of the best existing services.
Initiated and supported by Starlight Children’s Foundation, Livewire provides free, safe and fun online communities for families affected by a serious illness, chronic health condition or disability.
Livewire has three separate net communities:
Livewire Members - for young people, aged over 10 and under 21, living with a serious illness, chronic health condition or disability; a place where they can hang out, make new friends, share experiences, creatively express themselves and know that they are not alone.
Livewire Siblings - for young people, aged over 10 and under 21, who have a brother or sister living with a serious illness, chronic health condition or disability; a place where siblings can meet, be supported and share experiences with people who understand what they are going through.
Livewire Parents - for parents and carers of people living with a serious illness, chronic health condition or disability; a place where parents can connect with others who understand what they are going through in a supportive environment created just for them.
Livewire members can:
- Hang out in chat rooms and meet people their own age from all over Australia
- Create a blog about themselves or stuff they are interested in
- Check out the latest games
- Enter competitions and win awesome prizes
- Keep up with news, reviews and interviews
Chat hosts and moderators trained in adolescent health are online seven days a week to ensure that Livewire remains a fun and supportive place. Livewire is working with the Australian Federal Police to make certain all members of Livewire remain safe while engaging with the community.
