N.E.W.S.

The National Electric Wheelchair Sports (N.E.W.S) is an annual sporting event for people who use electric wheelchairs for daily mobility and have Muscular Dystrophy and other related neuromuscular disorders.

NEWS was first held in Victoria in 1986 and was the brainchild of the late Roger Melnyk, who had muscular dystrophy and saw the need for a national competition.

Today, the sports of Soccer, Hockey and Rugby League are played at NEWS and there are teams from NSW, QLD, SA, VIC, WA and ACT. NZ also participate but are currently unable to field a team.

NEWS 2011 was held from Tuesday 12th April to Saturday 16th April at the Sydney Academy of Sport and Recreation, Wakehurst Parkway, Narrabeen.
