FlexiRest Respite Program

This program is in collaboration with MS, MND and MDNSW. The program is funded by DADHC to provide respite where there is a specific outcome for the carer. Examples include; hydrotherapy, family breaks, home care etc

In-home Respite

This form of respite can offer a break to the carer and the person with the neuromuscular disorder who may be too frail to go away. It is organised in conjunction with the local Carer Respite Centre.

Transport

This can be for attending local ‘respite’ activities. Cabcharges are available to allow members with neuromuscular disorders to attend local activities such as social clubs or groups, N.E.W.S. (National Electric Wheelchair Sports) go to the movies, visit friends, etc. This assistance enables members to actively participate in the local community as well as give their carers a break.

Camps for Young People

Some young people prefer to have the option of taking some ‘time out’ from their family and MDNSW Camps are available for this very reason. Please see camp section for applications and more information.

Weekend Retreats

This new program enables members to get away for the weekend in small groups of like minded people to different location determined by the groups interests.

Currarong Cabins

Holiday cabins at the small tranquil fishing village of Currarong on the NSW South Coast, 3 hours (approx) from Sydney. Two cabins are avilable to members for very modest rates, to escape from the tedium of everyday life.

While they are not fully accessible there are entry ramps. The bathrooms are separate, and not accessible. A fully submersible “Freewheeler” wheelchair is also available. The village provides a general store, newsagent/post office, fish restaurant, club, two beautiful beaches, and many places of interest around nearby Jervis Bay.
