Meet George! George had his first experience of Power Wheel Chair sports when he was just 3 years of age. He is awaiting NDIS approval for his own power chair, so learning to drive the chair was an adventure in itself!
We spoke to George’s mum Nadia about the impact of Power Wheel Chair sports on George and their family:
“The NSW Powerchair Football Association (PFA) were so wonderful in fitting George in a spare chair so he could have a spin, ensuring his body was well supported. On that first day, you could not wipe the smile off his dial!! The freedom of movement and being with other children of similar age in power chairs was a delightful experience for him. Being involved has also been a fantastic experience for our whole family. We have felt so warmly welcomed into the PFA community. It has been great to meet new friends and reconnect with old ones. The community have been so generous in sharing their knowledge and resources, borne out of kindness and many more years of experience in living with neuromuscular conditions then we have. We all eagerly look forward to power wheel chair sports sessions, and would wholeheartedly recommend that anyone who is interested come along and give it a try!”
My name is Gordon Osmond, I am a retired acrylic and oil artist and I live in West Albury NSW. I have a debilitating neuromuscular condition called Inclusion Body Myositis or IBM.
