No Journey Alone –
2026-2028 Strategy

Every day, muscles make movement possible. To reach, to stand, to smile, to laugh. To breathe.

For the 13,000 people in NSW living with a neuromuscular condition, progressive muscle weakness can make these actions difficult. Some even face life-threatening complications.

For nearly 70 years, we’ve been here for NSW’s neuromuscular community. Now, we’re setting a new, refreshed strategy to guide our work for the next three years.

Informed by community, our strategy aims to build a world where no one faces their journey alone.

Strategic Priorities

Our vision is simple: every person living with a neuromuscular condition and their families experience choice, confidence and community.

Over the next three years, we’ll focus on three priorities to make it happen.
Become a volunteer
Strengthen Community Engagement

Our community is our compass. We’ll deepen relationships with those we already support, while making sure more people know about and can access the connection and opportunities we offer.

Helpful Resources
Amplify Advocacy

We’ll amplify the voices of people with neuromuscular conditions, ensuring their needs, priorities and lived experience guide policy, services and decisions.

Big Red Roll & Stroll
Grow Awareness of Neuromuscular Conditions

We’ll campaign to increase understanding of neuromuscular conditions and their impact, helping to build a society that is informed, inclusive and responsive to our community’s realities.

Our Strategic Goals

We’re committed to making sure every person living with a neuromuscular condition has the support they need:

  • More ways to get involved – we’ll expand participation across NSW while strengthening pathways to our services.
  • The programs you love – Peer Connect and Camps and Retreats will continue, with new opportunities for deeper connection.
  • High-quality Support Coordination – helping you access the services and supports that matter most.
  • Practical information, your way – providing guidance in formats that suit you.

To keep delivering programs and services, we need to grow our funding:

  • New opportunities – finding innovative ways to fund our work so we can do even more.
  • Long-term sustainability – ensuring our organisation remains strong and able to support the community for years to come.

We want more people to understand neuromuscular conditions and know that MDNSW is here to support them:

  • Raising awareness – sharing stories so the broader community understands the challenges and joys you face.
  • Amplifying your voice – advocating for your needs and ensuring decision-makers hear directly from you.
  • Sharing impact – keeping you connected and informed about the difference our programs make.

The people who support you every day make a difference:

  • Supporting and developing our people – ensuring staff have the skills to deliver quality programs.
  • Help our people to support you.

We will continue to improve the way we work to make programs safe, effective and easy to access:

  • Simpler, smarter systems – making it easier for staff and volunteers to do their important work.
  • Safe and reliable programs – strengthening governance, quality and risk management.
  • Skilled and prepared teams – training staff and volunteers to deliver services to the highest standard.

Our Theory of Change

Building confidence. Creating connections. Sparking skill-building. Sustaining a strong neuromuscular community.

That’s what we’re all about.

Our Theory of Change maps how our work makes a difference for people living with neuromuscular conditions and their families. It shows the steps from what we do to the impact it has in their lives.

Be Part of the Journey

Every member of our community, every family and every supporter has a role to play in bringing our 2026-2028 strategy to life.
You can ensure no one faces their journey alone. The work starts now. Together, we make it possible.
