How it works

Step 1: Register Your Interest
To start your volunteering journey with MDNSW, contact our team to complete an EOI form so we can get a better understanding of who you are and what you’re hoping to get out of the volunteering experience.

Step 2: Let's Have a Chat
Our team will contact you within two weeks of submitting your application. We will discuss the current volunteering opportunities and which might work best for you.

Step 3: Ticking the Boxes
If your application for a volunteer position is successful, we’ll walk you through the process of any documentation you may need to prepare such as references, police checks and Working With Children Checks. You'll be reimbursed for the payment of any check required for your volunteering opportunity.

Step 4: Time to Volunteer!
Congratulations – you're now ready to volunteer with MDNSW! Depending on which type of volunteer you are, you may have to complete additional training.

Volunteer testimonials

Testimonials

“I always look forward to coming back to camp. I’ve had a lot of memories, new friends. I think it’s just such a rewarding place to be. You get a really good insight into what life looks like for these kids, as opposed to a clinical setting or a hospital setting. I think that really helps you see things through a different lens and really shifts your mindset when you are back working as an OT.”

Oscar
Camp Carer

“[The volunteers] are helpful and they help you set up things to have fun.”

Harry
Camper

“The work I do… is really important to me because the kids get to be as independent as possible with our support.”

Paityn
Camp Carer
“The Adventure Camp experience ended up being such a positive opportunity for John to develop independence and this was something I really wanted for him. Not only did he make new friends and enjoy new experiences like playing in the sand at the beach and abseiling, but he also developed new independent skills that he is still doing at home now like brushing his teeth every day and getting himself dressed.

He’s more confident and we both understand that things won’t fall apart if I’m not around. John can’t wait to go back to Camp next year and I am so grateful to MDNSW for making this life-changing experience for him possible.”
