A Grandfather’s Story

Family Bio

Our names are Patty and Peter O’Keeffe and we have been caring for our grandson, Patrick Craig since the death of his mother Jen in 2010. Jen, who was our only child, passed away after an 8 year battle with Breast Cancer and prior to her death she asked us if we would care for Patrick as she was a single mum. As a young child, Patrick was diagnosed with Myotonic Dystrophy, Autism and a mild intellectual delay as well as a number of other issues. We have been so lucky to have been given such a wonderful opportunity to care for this young man and as we were invited to share our story at a recent Muscular Dystrophy Conference, we are now very happy to share those stories with The Peer Collective.
